
Behind every door, a listening ear
This past year I have been going through a dark period, both privately and professionally. Fortunately, there are friends and family to whom I can turn for a listening ear. To them, including those who were not photographed, this series of portraits is dedicated. It has become a personal document about valuable human relationships and moral support.
In different cultures, the door symbolises transitional situations, a place of beginning and end, of something new behind that door. The door is a boundary that can be opened between one state and another. It makes an entrance through a wall. In the same way, these people help me open new doors and find peace with the doors behind me that are closed - permanently or not.
Some doors are opened for me, others I have to open or even break in myself. The doors here fall into the first category. They welcome, open up. They do not yet include the door to the future. It remains to be seen how that will present itself.
